Most COVID-19 Deaths Worldwide Were Among Older People
More than 80% of the global COVID-19–related deaths between 2020 and 2021 occurred among people aged 60 years or older, according to data published by the World Health Organization (WHO) in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
Based on numbers collected through December 2022, the median COVID-19 primary series vaccination coverage among 154 reporting countries was 59%. For people aged 60 years or older, the median vaccination coverage was 76%, ranging from a low of 33% in low-income countries to 90% in high-income countries. Those numbers are below the WHO’s goal of vaccinating 100% of at-risk people globally.
